DESCRIPTION A small dark brown butterfly, with a swift flight (click on link below for image). Wingspan 28 - 36mm (male), 28 - 38mm (female). LIFE CYCLE Single brooded. Ova laid singly on mat-grass, hatching within 12 - 18 days. Overwinters as larvae, emerging again in March, and becoming fully grown by late May or early June. Pupal stage lasts 18 - 22 days. FLIGHT TIMES From late June to early August. REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION Found in Lochaber in the west, and in Badenoch and Strathspey towards the border with Perthshire. LINKS REFERENCES |
