DESCRIPTION Ground colour of uppersides of wings are orange-red, with contrasting dark and straw coloured markings. LIFE CYCLE Larvae spin conspicuous webs towards end of August. They overwinter and re-appear in early Spring, often basking in clusters. They eventually disperse, before pupating in at the end of April or beginning of May. Pupal stage lasts about 3 weeks. Adults emerge from late May to early June. FLIGHT TIMES May to mid-July REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION Has been recorded in West Inverness-shire near the boundaries with Argyll LINKS REFERENCES |
